Mineral insulated thermocouples (MITC)

General information

The mineral insulated thermocouple (MITC) is most commonly used thermocouple for temperature measurements in the industry. This is due to the large possibilities this type can be manufactured and also due to its low price.

We have currently following configurations available in our shop.


Type K (NiCr - NiAl) Type N (NiCrSi - NiSi)

Custom made MITC

If you need a custom configuration, or a configuration which is not placed in the shop, please feel free to send us your inquiry along with your specification to or just use this form.

Please note following information regarding MITC:
  • MITCs have, like all thermocouples, a virtual measuring point. This means that the temperature is not measured in the tip! Depending of the thickness the actual measuring point is 2 to 70 mm from the tip away and is given in the figure MPv.
  • For surface measurements please ensure that you have at least a length twice of MPV on the surface to prevent wrong measurements.
  • The maximum temperature is 1.100°C. Please note that type K thermocouples will start to drift at 800°C already. This drift increases with higher temperatures.
